The Town of Front Royal seeks a Deputy Town Attorney or Assistant Town Attorney. The successful candidate will assume a supporting role in providing legal services to the Mayor, Town Council and to other public bodies and departments of the Town on a broad range of matters, with primary responsibility for Town Code enforcement including the Town’s zoning ordinance, transactional work, and VFOIA compliance. The successful candidate will perform under the general supervision of the Town Attorney, will possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills along with practical knowledge and understanding of Virginia general law, local government law and procedures, and court rules and procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to perform legal research and prepare memoranda, draft contracts, agreements, deeds, leases, easements, ordinances, resolutions, and other documents, and to prosecute violations of the Town Code. A successful candidate for the Deputy position will be a licensed member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar with 5-10 years’ experience in the general practice of law, with 3-5 years’ local government law practice. A successful candidate for the Assistant position will be a licensed member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar with 2-5 years’ experience in the general practice of law, with local government law practice highly preferred. Salary range Deputy: $100,00 to $120,000 depending on qualifications. Salary range Assistant: $85,000 to $100,000 depending on qualifications.
